Bring your late-90s GC8 ignition system firmly into the modern era. The factory waste-spark ignition system and external ignitor module on the 1997–1998 WRX (EJ20G/EJ20K) were great in their day, but after nearly three decades of engine bay heat, they are prone to degradation, spark blow-out under boost, and annoying misfires.
The Roo Racing Coil-On-Plug (COP) Conversion Loom allows you to delete the outdated factory coil pack and external ignitor, converting your machine to a modern individual coil-on-plug setup. By giving each cylinder its own dedicated coil, you get a significantly stronger, more stable, and highly consistent spark delivery which is essential for track-driven cars or anyone turning up the boost.
Unlike later models, the '97-'98 platform requires a proper mechanical solution to bypass the factory ignitor. Please note that due to the factory wiring layout of the 1997–1998 model years, this kit is not a 100% plug-and-play install. To successfully bypass the factory ignitor module, the included bridging cables must be soldered or crimped directly into the engine’s factory ignition loom. If you aren't comfortable with automotive electrical work or proper crimping/soldering techniques, we highly recommend having this kit fitted by a professional automotive electrician or a specialized workshop.
