The tiny Subaru service accessory that make sense.

Magnetic Oil Drain Plugs

Pulls metal fragments out of your oil before you pull a bearing out of your block.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a magnetic oil drain plug actually do?

A magnetic oil drain plug helps catch fine metal particles floating around in your engine oil. Every engine creates tiny wear particles over time, especially as components bed in, age, or get pushed harder. The magnet gives those particles somewhere to collect instead of letting them keep circulating through your oiling system.

Which plug do I need for my Subaru?

Choose the EJ/EZ version if your Subaru has an EJ 4-cylinder or EZ 6-cylinder engine. This commonly includes many WRX, STI, Forester and Liberty models.

Choose the FA/FB version if your Subaru has an FA or FB 4-cylinder engine. This commonly includes many newer WRX, BRZ, Forester, Liberty, Levorg, Outback, XV and Crosstrek models.

Not sure which one your Subaru needs? Reach out before ordering and we’ll help you pick the right plug.

Can I reuse it?

Yes. The plug itself is reusable. At each oil change, remove it, clean the magnet, inspect what it has collected, and reinstall it with a fresh crush washer.

Does it come with a crush washer?

Yes. Each Roo Racing Magnetic Oil Drain Plug includes a crush washer, so you have a fresh sealing washer ready for install.

What does metal on the magnet mean?

Some fine metallic paste can be normal over time. That’s the plug doing its job.

However, if you’re seeing larger shavings, flakes, chunks, or a sudden increase in metal from one service to the next, that can be a warning sign. In that case, don’t ignore it - inspect further or speak to a Subaru specialist.

I’m not 100% sure which engine I have.
