What to Check When Buying a Used Subaru
Buying a used WRX or STI? Avoid surprises with this inspection checklist:
-
Service Records: If it has no history, be cautious. Look for regular oil changes, timing belt (EJ), or chain (FA) work.
-
Cold Start: Listen for knocking or ticking. Should idle smoothly after a few seconds.
-
Compression Test: Low compression in one cylinder? Walk away.
-
Smoke Test: Check for leaks in the turbo system and vacuum lines.
-
Oil & Coolant: Look for contamination (milky oil, discoloured coolant) as signs of internal failure.
Inspect underbody for rust, check for mismatched panels, and ask who tuned it. A clean, stock car is gold.
